Levelland-a Texas Main Street City

In 1997 Levelland was one of the five cities chosen to be an official 1998 Texas Main Street City. The Texas Main Street Program was established in 1981 through the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. Itıs primary purpose was to assist small cities with building design, information on marketing and management techniques, technical assistance and development of low interest loan programs to restore aging downtown buildings. The Main Street Program is a redevelopment program designed to capitalize on the unique character of the downtown, while at the same time promoting an aggressive marketing strategy, provide technical assistance to the building owners, and beautify the downtown area.

Levelland's first months in the program were successful. Initial accomplishments include: the establishment of a low interest loan program backed by all five local banks, the initiation of beautification and remodeling efforts on several downtown buildings, seminars held to educate small business owners, expansion of existing downtown activities, and the planning of new activities. Any questions regarding the Main Street Program should be directed to Debra Dye, Main Street Manager at (806) 894-0113.
