If you're a sports lover, you'll be glad to find out that Levelland is known as a city of sports champions. Levelland is
the site for playoff games and is the national home of the highly-competitive Little Dribblers' basketball program.
Levelland High School offers a variety of varsity sports:
football, boys and girls basketball, boys' and girls' track and cross country, power lifting, baseball, volleyball and boys' and girls'
tennis. The Levelland High School Loboette basketball team has won numerous state championships; and the varsity programs have produced a number of top athletes.
South Plains College sports strong programs in collegiate basketball and track and cross country for both men and women. Both men and women's basketball teams have enjoyed regional championships in the highly-competitive Western Junior Athletic Conference. Sheryl Swoopes and Charles Outlaw are products of SPC basketball. The SPC cross country team won national championships in 1991, 1996 and 1997 and has been among the top 10 in the nation since 1983. Levelland hosted the 1997 National Cross Country Finals which drew more than 2,000 people.
Top-notch athletic facilities in Levelland include: Lobo Stadium (high school football), Gano Tubb Gymnasium at Levelland High School (basketball and volleyball), the SPC tennis courts with 12 courts; Lobo Field (baseball), the SPC Track Stadium, and Texan Dome at SPC, a sports arena which seats 3,000 and can be transformed from basketball courts to a concert stage or graduation site.
If that's not enough, the Texas Tech University Red Raiders and Lady Raiders, now members of the Big 12 Conference, have a complete schedule of Division 1 NCAA athletic events. Lubbock also sponsors the the Cotton Kings, a professional minor league Hockey team.
Other recreation offerings include Golf at the Levelland Country Club, an Indoor Driving Range - South Plains College Texan Dome (call for reservation), swimming at the Natatorium (SPC) and City pool, Racquetball and handball courts, tennis courts, weight room and fitness center.
Nine municipal parks cover more than 150 acres around the city. There are two city swimming pools, two jogging and walking tracks, picnicking venues, playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts.
