Early Settlers Day
July 14, 2018 ~ Building on Tradition
is an annual celebration in July on the downtown square. The Morning Rotary Pancake Breakfast begins at 6:30 am in the usual spot on the corner of Ave G and Houston Street. Line-up for the Smith South Plains Ford and Lincoln Parade will begin at 8:15 am and the parade begins at 9:30 am. Merchants will be offering specials for the day around the square. The kids' area and water slides will be open at 11 am. Krestridge Funeral Home is sponsoring a tent honoring all early settlers on the east side of the courthouse lawn. Hockley County Senior Citizens' Association volunteers will serve as hosts and hostesses at the designated tent. This tent is separate from the tent for the general public on the north side of the lawn. Beginning at 11 am will be live music and entertainment in the gazebo, hosted by Texas Music Supply. The annual stick horse and turtle races, hosted by Hockley County 4-H, will be held at the north entrance of the courthouse. The stick horse race begins at 11 am and the turtle race begins at 1:30 pm. The Senior Citizens Association will raffle their quilt at 2 pm at the gazebo. Activities that will take place all day include: children's train ride, water slides, antique tractor display, food vendors, craft vendors, and much more.
